I am not sure I agree with MS’s view here. the new softwar would have been on INtel so it is competing…thats MSFT trying to manage the fallout of doing something that goes against the interests of its oldest ally.

It is however an important step for Arm competing with Intel one day in the future.

Also MS has stated at that unveiling of their Arm servers designs that it’s interest in Arm is not legacy software based in the server room so the designs MS showed off are not competing directly with existing Intel hardware.

MS is hedging it’s bets on the long term future of x86, top of the line Qualcomm smart phone chips are roughly comparable to lower end Intel Core i3 CPU’s and the whole cellular pc concept with x86 emulation might not just be limited to phones. If Windows 10 on Arm works well enough it could spread to laptops and mini PC’s eroding the lower end of the market for Intel too.
